What is an AI biographer?
An AI biographer interviews a person about their life, listens to what they say, asks follow-up questions built from their answers, and organises the result into a written memoir.
The short definition
An AI biographer does the job a human biographer or oral historian does - asking, listening, drawing out, organising - using speech recognition to hear the answers and a language model to decide what to ask next and how to shape the result.
The important word in that sentence is listening. It is what
- separates an AI biographer from a question list, which asks the same fifty things of everybody;
- separates it from a transcription service, which writes down what you said but never asks you anything;
- separates it from a writing assistant, which helps you write but requires you to already know what you want to say.
What it actually does, step by step
- Asks a question out loud. Usually something small and concrete - a house, a job, a car - because large questions like “tell me about your childhood” are unanswerable.
- Listens to the spoken answer and turns it into text.
- Reads that answer and identifies what in it is worth pursuing - a name, an aside, a detail the speaker skipped past.
- Asks about that, rather than moving to the next item on a list. It also drops prepared questions the answer has already covered.
- Remembers the people, places and dates mentioned, and uses them in later questions.
- Organises the accumulated answers into chapters, in the speaker’s own words, for the speaker to review and edit.
What listening looks like in practice
What was your father like when you were growing up?
Dad was a quiet man. He worked all the time. He served during the war, although he almost never talked about it…
You mentioned that your father rarely talked about the war. Do you remember the first time he ever told you something about it?
No prepared list contains that third question. It exists only because of one clause in the second turn. That is the whole of what an AI biographer is for.
What an AI biographer cannot do
A page defining a category should be honest about its limits, so:
- It cannot know anything you did not tell it. It does not research your life. If your memory of a date is wrong, the memoir will be wrong in the same way - which is arguably correct for a memoir, but it is not a historical record.
- It should not invent. A biographer that fills gaps with plausible detail is producing fiction about a real person. MyLifeMemoir writes only from what was actually said, and every chapter is reviewed by the storyteller before it counts.
- It is not company. It is an interviewer, not a companion, and not a substitute for someone to talk to when a memory is difficult.
- It does not judge significance. What mattered in a life is the storyteller’s call, which is why nothing is required and everything is skippable.
Is it better than interviewing a parent yourself?
Different, and better at some things. A patient interviewer who never gets bored, never signals that an answer is running long, and has no family history with the person will often get more candid material than a son or daughter can. Against that, you know which questions matter to your family and it does not.
The best outcome is usually both: the interview runs on its own, and you contribute the photographs, the corrections and the questions only you would think to ask.

Common questions
Does the AI write my memoir for me?
It organises your words; it does not supply its own. The sentences in your chapters come from what you said, rearranged and joined. You review every chapter and can change any line.
Will it sound like me?
It should, because the vocabulary is yours. And the recording of you saying it stays attached to the chapter, which settles the question entirely.
Is my life story used to train the AI?
No. Not by us, and not by anyone who transcribes speech or drafts follow-ups on our behalf - we undertake in our terms not to use a provider that reserves the right to, and to change provider if one ever starts. The full detail is here, including exactly what is sent where.
What happens if the transcription mishears something?
You correct it, and the correction sticks - a name fixed once is spelled that way in every later chapter.
